It was time for a Jeff and Heidi trip! It was the first time leaving both girls - and off we went to NOLA.
I met Jeff there on Friday as he was already there on business and the exploring began!
First..it was lunch time and I had to try a shrimp poboy at Commerce - excellent!
The weather was absolutely gorgeous, so we then walked around quite a bit and found a great place to sit outside and enjoy some fun drinks with Jeff's childhood neighbor, Rich, and his wife, Amy. Again...the weather was sooooo nice!
Saturday morning was an airboat ride in the swamps of Louisiana to see some alligators! We weren't sure how many we would see, but saw A LOT!
Again...the weather was absolutely perfect!
An albino one in captivity...
Before the ride...
A shrimping boat along the way...
Off we went!
Two sunning themselves...
Gorgeous moss on the trees...
Swamp, swamp and more swamp...
Our guide fed them marshmallows...apparently, alligators love them! We all got to feed them as well - super cool!
We saw turtles, too...
A huge one just hanging out on a log...
Another huge one...this is the one where the guide got out of the boat and grabbed it's tail! He really didn't mind much, but the guide said that's because the weather was a bit cold for them and they are pretty tame at this time of year. He said he would never do this in the middle of the summer! Crazy man!
Cool birds...we also saw some eagles, but I didn't get any pics of them.
More turtles...
This one was taking a mud bath!
Our guide caught this 7 month old one and let us all hold it - crazy fun!
Here's Rich holding it....(Jeff was too scared - ha!)
Jeff pretending to drive the boat!
This guy was so little and tame - and actually pretty cute!
He loved having this chin scratched!
The last sight of the swamp...
Then...off to find some good friend chicken per Rich's request.... This was a really old and pretty yummy place!
Then, it was off to the French Quarter...
And then onto Bourbon street - and according to Amy, I had to have a frozen drink to make the experience complete. So...in honor of True Blood, I had to have a Vampire's Blood. It was actually really, really tasty.
Amy and I ....
We also walked into some really cool art galleries along the way on Bourbon...
More of Bourbon... I don't have pics of the jazz club we visited, but it was also really, really cool - and we sat outside in this open air atrium, which made it even better!
St Louis street....
Then...some of our hotel, The Roosevelt. It was fabulous as well - so pretty and old! These pictures don't do it justice. These were just some of the lobby as we left on Sunday.
Finally - some beignets and coffee with chicory before our flight! We had tried to go while we were in the French Quarter, but it was just a mob scene. But - we made it and they were very, very tasty! Very much like a funnel cake!
All in all, a wonderful, wonderful getaway! We all needed it!
